Norman O. McIver, 40, construction worker
Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela - Norman O. McIver, and overseas construction worker, died of injuries suffered in an automobile accident June 6, 1992 at Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. He was 40.
He was born Oct. 30, 1951, at Lewiston, to Alda M.(Choate) and Donald D. McIver. He was raised on a farm in the Cavendish area and attended elementary school there.
He graduated in 1970 from Orofino High School, where he played basketball and football.
After graduation, he worked at Dworshak Dam until 1974. He then moved to the Kennewick area and was employed on the construction of Hanford Nuclear Reservation at Hanford, Wash., for eight years.
He married Carol L. Hillman on March 23, 1974, at Coeur d'Alene.
From 1982 to 1985, he worked overseas for Guy F. Atkinson in Venezuela on the Gurl project, one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world.
He was then transferred to the Seattle area to work on the Interstate 90 floating bridge there.
He returned to Venezuela in 1990 as the concrete superintendent on the Macaqua project, where he was working at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Pasco Moose Lodge. He enjoyed collecting guns and spending time pursuing outdoor sports, especially hunting and finshing.
Survivors include his wife at the Lenore, Idaho, family home; his mother of Lewiston; two brothers, Doug R. McIver of Umatilla, Ore., and Jim D. McIver of Lewiston; two sisters, Phyllis N. Parks of Spanaway Wash., and Debbie K. McIver of Lewiston; and maternal grandmother Pearl Choate of Lewiston.
His father died previously.
A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston. The Rev. Clarence Howard of the First Christian Church of Orofino will officiate.
